Blog > How to wear a hot dress in a cool summer

It’s June, you’re going to a wedding (40th birthday, ladies lunch, etc.) and the weather still can’t make up its mind.

How can you possibly wear your ‘hot’ dress in this cool summer?

You were so looking forward to wearing your snazzy dress, no tights and sporting a bit of a tan.  Now you are wondering if you are brave enough to bear the chill of our non-existent summer. We are used to weathering all weathers in the UK, but sometimes it’s a dampener too far.

But, you shall wear your dress to the summer ball!  You just need to layer it up stylishly.  Here are my five simple tips to ensure you dress like summer is here, keep warm and feel good:

1. Choose a thicker fabric
Find a fabric like neoprene, which will keep you more snug than light cotton or chiffon.

2. Go for longer length
A midi length dress or skirt will keep the knees warmer!

3. Make your cover-up part of the outfit
Find a simple cover-up that doesn’t upstage your dress, or make it an additional twist to your look.

4. Wear nude tights
..in a shade that matches your skin tone (see previous blog)

5. Wear shapewear or a slip
We all love a bit of shapewear to smooth out the extra curves, it can also keep the heat in!  If your dress is looser fitting then get a slip.

Extra tip if you are feeling fashion-forward
If you didn’t already know, the way to wear 2016’s on-trend slip dress in cooler temperatures is with a layer underneath!
